Does IIT Madras foster entrepreneurs?
Asked by
Oh yes, with full enthusiasm and a lot of support through many IITM bodies.
One of them is the student run E-Cell, an avenue for undergraduate students to develop their basic skills related to entrepreneurship, like problem-solving and design thinking. E-Cell conducts several business competitions which give students the opportunity to solve real-life industry problems. One of their events is the 2-3 day long E-Summit where entrepreneurs from around the country gather to pitch their startups, compete in hackathons, network with industry leaders, attend masterclasses, win incubations and meet investors.
Another avenue for entrepreneurship is Nirmaan, a pre-incubation cell which helps enterprising students develop products, and get industry mentorship, space for operations and preliminary funding up to 2 lakhs.
Another example is the IIT Madras Incubation Cell, which currently houses around 200 deep technology startups. They provide the incubated teams with workspaces, funding opportunities, Venture Capital opportunities and much more.
So if you're a student with a vision, IITM will help take it far. It certainly did for MANY founders who have graduated from IITM to do big things, including 11 founders of unicorn companies!
