What you do in your college life shapes you as a person. People who joined IIT Madras just for the tag have explored a lot outside their branch and have gone on to achieve wonderful things in that field. One of the main reasons for this is the super flexible curriculum which offers you a ton of options to choose from. Here are some highlights:

  • Electives:You can choose almost 40% of the courses in your curriculum! That's a lot of flexibility to tailor your education to your interests. The courses are divided into four categories: Science, Engineering, Professional, and Humanities.

  • Minors: If you decide to take four courses in one contiguous area, you'll be awarded a Minor in that field! That's a great way to show off your expertise in a particular subject. For example, if you complete four Economics courses, you'll earn a Minor in Economics.

  • IDDD: When you reach the fourth or fifth semester of your degree, you'll have the opportunity to upgrade to a variety of interdisciplinary programs. These include fields like Advanced Materials and Nanotechnology, Complex Systems and Dynamics, Computational Engineering, Cyber-Physical Systems, Data Science, Electric Vehicles, Energy Systems, Robotics, Tech MBA, Quantitative Finance and Quantum Science and Technology. With so many options available, you're sure to find a program that aligns with your interests and goals!

  • Semester exchange: Studying abroad is also an option. IITM has partnerships with almost 300 prestigious universities across the world. You can apply to spend an entire semester at one of these universities and earn credits that will be transferred to your IITM grade sheet.

Along with the academics, PoRs teach a lot to streamline your interest and pursue further along the same line. Whatever is the path, one thing remains supreme - learning.

IIT Madras offers flexibility and choice with electives, minor programs and IDDDs.
