Is Chennai safe for women students?

Chennai is a very safe city, with the lowest crime rate against women as compared to 19 other metropolitan cities in India, including Bengaluru and Mumbai (according to the 2022 data released by the National Crime Records Bureau).

That apart, IITM is very vigilant about safety within the campus. The security personnel around the campus and within each hostel is significant.

In addition, two active bodies have been formed by students, faculty, staff and residents that constantly work towards the safety and equality of genders on campus: the Women’s Forum and the Complaints Committee against Sexual Harassment.
