If you're interested in being part of the world's EV revolution, IITM would be the best place to do it!

You've heard right. Electric Vehicles (EVs) are all the buzz in India lately, and IITM is at the core of this future-facing technology.

Here are some exciting things you should know:

  • IITM now offers a unique and Interdisciplinary Dual-Degree (IDDD) program on electric vehicles. This will enhance research capabilities in this exciting and rapidly evolving field. Vehicle Dynamics, Battery Technology, Power Electronics and Motor Drives for EVs, and Control of Automotive Systems are some of the courses covered in the program.

  • The Centre of Battery Engineering and Electric Vehicles (C-BEEV) was set up by IITM in 2016 to promote R&D in electric mobility in collaboration with major automotive companies and battery manufacturers from around the world. This is a great platform for students and researchers to get hands-on experience in the EV industry.

  • The IITM network also has some luminaries in the EV field. Ather Energies, India's EV darling, was founded by IITM alumni and received funding and development support from other alumni. It is also supported by the Technology Development Board under the Department of Science and Technology.

  • IIT Madras has also invited applications for a free online course called “Electric Vehicles and Renewable Energy” on the SWAYAM NPTEL platform. The participants of the 12-week long course will receive an understanding of the fundamentals of Electric Vehicles (EVs) and Renewable Energy, especially in the Indian context.

IITM is leading the way in what is set to be one of the predominant technologies of the next century. We anticipate that numerous other groundbreaking developments will emerge from the initiatives taking place here!
