That is correct, IITM does not offer a BTech or MTech program in Defense Technology as of yet.
However, IIT Madras's flexible curriculum allows students to build up their profile to suit their interests, meaning several students take electives in their respective disciplines that are relevant to defense technologies including Gas turbine combustion (in aerospace), radar and antenna design (in electrical engineering), and more.
Apart from the courses, the clubs in CFI (Centre for Innovation) are taking up projects relating to defense technologies. Blockchain for ammunition management, AI for aircraft identification, Newer weapon technologies, and various other projects are under ideation. Plans are also on to have a new students’ club focusing entirely on the realm of defense, in partnership with governmental organizations such as SIDM (Society of Defense Manufacturers)!
