I have qualified for both MBBS and the BS program in Medical Sciences and Engineering offered by IITM. Which path should I choose if I'm passionate about research?
IITM's BS program in Medical Sciences is an interdisciplinary programme that bridges Medicine & Engineering. The course structure involves an internship in a hospital to tie theory and practice together. The courses in the programme will be taught by both medical & engineering faculty, and will provide a strong research base for students. The programme will offer specialisations in a number of areas through elective subjects, and will cover emerging areas at the cutting edge of Medicine, like the application of AI in healthcare, new device and drug development, medical image analysis, and digital twins. Along with that, the student would also have the option to pursue various other technical domains at IIT Madras, through electives in other departments and student-run innovation clubs. IITM offers a lot of flexibility and opens up a lot more career options as well, along with some world-class research facilities. So, if the student's passion is research at the end of the day, we believe IITM is the place to be at.
