What is the future of students pursuing MTech Biotechnology (integrated course of 5 years)? Is biology mandatory for biotechnology courses?
IIT Madras has stopped admission to the dual degrees program in Biological Engineering. Instead, there is a four-year BTech program in Biological Engineering. Biology at the school level is not a prerequisite for admission to this program. Students opting for the bioengineering program are poised to take up academic research in leading international universities or work as process engineers and R&D scientists in Indian biotechnology industries. For students interested in a master's degree as well, there is an option to upgrade to a BTech+MTech in Biological Engineering or BTech (Biological Engineering)+MS (Biological Sciences) or choose IITM's interdisciplinary dual degree programs in various fields like data science, biomedical engineering, electric vehicles, etc.
